WILL QUALIFIES FOURTH AT PACIFIC RACEWAYS; RECORDS CAREER-BEST E.T. EN ROUTE TO FIRST-ROUND WIN AT SEATTLE
KENT, Wash. (July 23, 2005) -- Rising Top Alcohol Dragster star Hillary Will blistered the Pacific Raceways quarter mile during the first round of eliminations Saturday afternoon as she powered her Girl Power Racing dragster to a career-best performance. The Northern California native stopped the Pacific Raceway times in 5.302 seconds at 270.97 mph to record the quickest and fastest run of the opening round of TAD eliminations.
Will, 25, qualified her Bucky Austin-tuned blown alcohol dragster in the No. 4 position during the 18th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals after recording a qualifying-best run of 5.406 seconds at 267 mph. Three cars ran 5.40 during qualifying at the Seattle-area track. The TAD competitors had the opportunity to make just two qualifying attempts after Friday's opening qualifying session was washed out due to morning rain showers. Will recorded the 5.406-second pass on Friday evening, before powering to a 5.48 on her final qualifying attempt.
Will and the Girl Power Racing team earned a bye run in the first round of TAD eliminations when No. 13 qualifier Sean O'Bannon's rail broke on the starting line. The team took full advantage of the opportunity as Will posted the quickest elapsed time of the opening round at 5.302 seconds at a stout 270.97 mph.
"Bucky (Austin) told me that track conditions were good and that it would run 270 (mph) and he was right," Will said. "I knew by mid-track we were on a good run, it felt smooth as glass. The track is really good and we run well on good race tracks, so I'm excited about the rest of the weekend."
The Northern California native will battle Greg Lawrence in the second round of Top Alcohol Dragster eliminations on Sunday afternoon at Pacific Raceways as she looks to collect her second career NHRA national event victory. Will earned her first career victory at the Summitracing.com Nationals at Las Vegas in April. She posted a runner-up finish at the season-opening Winternationals at historic Pomona (Calif.) Raceway in February.
