Larry Dixon & Miller Lite Dragster Qualify No. 2 At Seattle

KENT, WA (July 27) -- For the 12th time out of the first 15 races this season, Larry Dixon has qualified the Don Prudhomme Racing Miller Lite Dragster among the top three cars with his No. 3 qualifying effort Saturday at the Prolong Northwest Nationals.

Dixon entered the day as the No. 2 qualifier after his strong pass of 4.557 seconds at 317.12 mph.  The day's opening session saw Dixon pick up right where he left off Friday night as he recorded a lap of 4.536 seconds at 320.13 mph.  The speed mark served as a new track speed record after the first session.

The fourth and final session produced a second consecutive 4.5-second run for Dixon and the Miller Lite Team, as well as even more horsepower and speed.  Dick LaHaie tuned Dixon to a pass of 4.536 seconds at 321.58 mph to sit No. 3 at the end of qualifying and an opening round meeting with No. 14 qualifier Gordie Bonin.  The first round will mark the first career meeting between Dixon and Bonin. Dixon also puts the longest current opening round win streak in Top Fuel(15) on the line Sunday morning.

Dixon's career best finish at S.I.R. has been a pair of semifinal finishes coming in 1997 and again last year -- with Gary Scelzi ending his race weekends both times.  The Miller Lite Driver sits second in the points race, just three points behind leader Kenny Bernstein.  Dixon has reached five final rounds this season, including wins at Gainesville, FL, Columbus, Ohio, and Denver.

The elimination rounds for Sunday will air on ESPN2 Sunday from 6:00-8:00:00 PM ET.
