KENT, Wash. (July 19, 2004) -- It's a special weekend for Cory McClenathan, who drives the Carrier Boyz Racing Berryman Products Top Fuel Dragster.

CARQUEST Auto Parts joins Carrier Boyz Racing as an associate marketing partner at the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash., this weekend.

"I look forward to starting our relationship with CARQUEST Auto Parts and to meeting all the company management and employees starting at the press conference on Thursday," said McClenathan.

Regarding their new marking partner, co-team owner Andy Carrier, who along with his brother Mark Carrier own Carrier Boyz Racing, added, "We look forward to carrying the CARQUEST Auto Parts banner and will do everything we can to promote CARQUEST and direct the consumers we reach through NHRA drag racing into the CARQUEST Auto Parts stores. Our common interest to be leaders in our respective businesses is what binds this relationship together.

"We will also represent CARQUEST at the event they sponsor in Chicago the first weekend in October. We are proud they have given us the opportunity to represent them and hope this is the start of an ongoing business relationship together."

When racing begins on Friday the Carrier Boyz Racing team lead by crew chief Todd Smith will be adjusting to new rule changes imposed upon the nitro cars (Top Fuel and Funny Car) by NHRA to provide additional safety measures for the drivers that go into effect at Seattle.

Of paramount interest will be the lowering of the nitromethane fuel mixture percentage from 90-percent to 85- percent.

"Everybody will be worried about the new 85-percent rule," speculated McClenathan. "My guess is that it will initially slow us down but it will only take a few run to get that figured out and provide more exciting racing for the fans. At least that's what happened when we lower the nitro mix to 90-percent."

Entering this weekend's CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals, Cory Mac holds the No. 8 position in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings. He has accumulated 692 points after 13 of 23 events on the 2004 schedule. That places him three points behind seventh place, 27 behind sixth and 60 points out of the top five.

"The point deficit is not too great of an amount to overcome. We need to go to the later rounds and cut into the point amounts of those cars in front of us. What better way to do that than to win the race sponsored by your new marketing partner. Hopefully we can do that for CARQUEST Auto Parts this weekend," said McClenathan.

Professional nitro qualifying begins on Friday (July 23) with two sessions scheduled for Friday at 4 and 7 p.m. and concluding with two additional sessions on Saturday (July 24) at noon and 3:30 p.m. Final eliminations for all classes get underway on Sunday (July 25) at 11 a.m. These times are subject to change and reflect Pacific Daylight Time (PDT).

Qualifying highlights for the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals can be seen on ESPN2 on Saturday (July 24) from 7-9 p.m. ESPN2 will also air same-day television coverage of eliminations from 8 until 11 p.m. on Sunday (July 25). Television times are Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and subject to change at anytime. Check local listings.
