First-round Finish for Cory Mac

Rain and tire smoke combined to dampen the weekend for Cory McClenathan and the Scott Griffin Motorsports FRAM Top Fuel team at the Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals at Pacific Raceways.

The rain wiped out three of four scheduled qualifying sessions and delayed the start of eliminations.

The tire smoke came in Sunday's first round and slowed McClenathan to a time of 10.671 seconds at 87.07 mph, allowing Doug Herbert to take the win with a 4.572 at 320.05.

"We'd hoped to get down the (less-favored) right lane," McClenathan said. "Unfortunately, the tune-up was a little too aggressive. And then Herbert ran a 4.57. That hurt us in the battle to get into the top eight in points."

"Now it's on to Sonoma (Calif.) for the FRAM-Autolite Nationals, an important race for us."
