CHEVROLET NOTES AND QUOTES PROLONG SUPER LUBRICANTS NORTHWEST NATIONALS NHRA WINSTON DRAG RACING SERIES SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY SATURDAY, AUGUST 1, 1998
PRO STOCK TRUCK -- CHEVY S-10
LARRY KOPP, ACCURATE BINDING/ARMA COATINGS/G-FORCE TRANSMISSIONS CHEVY S-10, No. 1 qualifier for the fourth time in seven races, red-lighted and was eliminated in the first round of eliminations today by Roy Hill. This is the second time that Kopp was eliminated due to redlighting. No. 1 qualifier in Houston, he red-lighted in the semi-finals, losing to David Nickens (Dodge), who went on to win the title, the only title so far to be won by a non-Chevy S-10 driver.
KOPP: "I saw yellow (the lights), but obviously I was early. There's no excuse, no excuse for it, none at all. I'm not going to make an excuse, it's my fault, driver error, and I have to live with it. It's not the end of the world, hopefully."
ON THE POINTS CHASE: It's going to tighten up the points, but it all depends on who wins. If (John) Lingenfelter wins the race, it will tighten it up. John definitely gained ground on us, because he's in second place. Indy (U.S. Nationals) is the next race and we will be there. We're fast, we're plenty fast, we just have to get back into the rhythm we were in in the beginning of the year, and that's that."
Note: Chevy S-10 drivers Brad Jeter, Tim Freeman, Jerry Haas, Bob Panella Jr. and John Lingenfelter advance to the second round.
