SONOMA, Calif. - Fireworks won't be the only thing lighting up the sky this Fourth of July weekend, as Sears Point Raceway's The Fox 101.7/Team Chevrolet Festival of Fire returns. This memorable weekend will feature the North Bay's largest fireworks show, hundreds of the state's fastest hot rods, an explosive jet car exhibition, and a pyrobatic air show, June 30-July 2.

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series Division 7 will feature 400 sportsman drivers competing in eight drag racing categories: Dragster, Funny Car, Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.

The main feature of this exciting weekend will come on Saturday night, July 1, with an old-fashioned country barbecue, live music, jet car exhibition and pyrobatic air show. The highlight of the night will be a 30-minute "Pyro Spectacular" fireworks show choreographed to music. The North Bay's largest fireworks show will begin around 9:15 p.m. and is presented by Korbel Champagne.

Before the fireworks begin, fans will get the chance to experience the stunning power of 6,000 horsepower jet cars rocketing down the quarter-mile drag strip. These fiery rockets can cover the quarter-mile in five seconds at almost 300 miles per hour, and are powered by the same engines as modern-day fighter jets. The thundering sounds and explosive power of the jet cars will get this exciting evening off to a sizzling start.

Another addition to this Independence Day celebration will be retired U.S. Air Force fighter-pilot Bill Reesman, who will fly his "MiG-17 Meteor" jet - the world's only night aerobatic, pyro jet-fighter act - over the raceway. Those in attendance will see Reesman's authentic 1958 Russian fighter-jet perform a thrilling, flame throwing aerial demonstration.

Following these exhibitions, fans are invited to stroll up to grassy Turn 2 for a panoramic view of the North Bay's largest fireworks spectacular. This beautiful display will be a relaxing way to end an exciting day of racing and enjoy an outstanding Fourth of July celebration.

On the track, fans will get to witness the sheer power of the Federal-Mogul drag racing series. Brentwood resident Rick Santos, the defending Division 7 and National champion, will be tested by the likes of Mike Strasburg, Steve Faria and David Baca. Strasburg sits in second place behind Santos in the standings after three of seven events. Other top Federal Mogul competitors include: Larry Miner (Funny Car), Doug Gordon (Funny Car), Tony DeFrank (Super Stock) and Andy Manna (Competition). Qualifying will take place both Friday and Saturday, with final eliminations for all classes beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Eight "Festival of Fire" champions will be crowned at Sears Point Raceway following exciting final-round action.

Gates open at Sears Point Raceway on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 a.m. Tickets for the Festival of Fire are $5 on Friday, $25 on Saturday and $20 on Sunday. A three-day pass may be purchased for $45. For more information, call 800-870-RACE or visit www.searspoint.com.
