SCRIBNER, Neb - Defending Division 5 Federal Mogul Dragster Champion David Wells lost his hopes of keeping the Division 5 crown in a tough semifinal loss to current points leader Billy Bybee during this past weekend's Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series Division 5 race at the Nebraska Motorplex in Scribner, Nebraska.

The LeMars, Iowa driver qualified his Blue Bunny Ice Cream/ "Plain Vanilla" dragster No. 2 with a 5.75/246 behind eventual winner Bruce Bowler's 5.69/246 that took the pole. In the first round Wells defeated Ziggy Zivkovich with a 5.83 before losing to Bybee in the semi's. Bybee ran a 5.69 to edge out Wells' 5.83.

Wells said, "The motor made enough power on the top end that it drove through the clutch and we just got beat."

"Bybee doesn't quite have the Division Championship wrapped up yet, but I can't beat him, Bruce [Bowler] still has a shot," Wells added.

The next stop on the Blue Bunny Ice Cream/ "Plain Vanilla" Racing Team's schedule will be The Colonel's Truck Accessories Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota, next weekend where Wells will be looking for his first national event win of the season. Wells won the Division 5 race there earlier in the season.

"Brainerd is a pretty decent track, so we will put some more horsepower in the car to get it down through the track, and hope for the best."
