SCRIBNER, Neb. - After two disappointing first round losses, defending three-time NHRA Division 5 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion David Wells is ready bounce back during this weekend's Division 5 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the Nebraska Motorplex in Scribner, Neb. Wells and his Blue Bunny Ice Cream/ "Plain Vanilla" team hope to get things lined out this weekend with a strong showing to maintain their Division 5 points lead.

Wells, who helps run the family's ice cream plant in LeMars, Iowa, currently holds a 20 pt. lead over second-place Ed Schmeekle. He feels they have a handle on the problem that has plagued them the past two races, but acknowledges that Scribner will be more of a contest of who can get down the track rather than an all-out horsepower battle.

"We've been having a problem getting it through low gear," said Wells. "I think we have the problem figured out. Scribner is not a track where you go out and get real aggressive, though. You really have to finesse it to get the car down the track."

Wells feels that the hot conditions will make it tough for the teams to run 'big' numbers this weekend.

"Scribner can be a tricky track to get down," commented Wells. "The guy who can make consistent point A to B runs this weekend will probably come out on top. We're going to do everything we can to be that car."

Qualifying begins on Friday, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
