Scotty Cannon Signs New Sponsorship Deal To Run Nitro Funny Car

ORANGE COUNTY, CA. -- If you ever wondered the outcome of a John Force versus Scotty Cannon race, you will have to look no further than the NHRA/Winston Circuit in 1999. Last evening, a deal was reached with Oakley USA for Cannon to run a nitro-burning, Funny Car on the NHRA circuit. Terms of the deal were not released at the time of announcement.

At the time of announcement, Cannon was so visibly shaken that he could barely talk. "What can you say when a dream comes true?," explained Cannon. "I look forward to being able to do battle with Force, Pedregon, Capps and the whole group. I am a little awestruck right now, but when it comes time to race, I will be ready to run against them. Heroes are nice. But, it's time to show my worth as a driver. I am bringing the same work ethic to Nitro Funny Car as I employed in Pro Modified. All I can say is that we will be ready."

Cannon is a well known driver among the Pro Modified ranks with 6 World Championships and 32 National Event victories. He is ranked as the top driver of all time in the IHRA's priemere, outlaw doorslammer category. The veteran driver from Lyman, S.C., has confided that he may run IHRA Pro Modified on a limited basis. No official announcement on the status of the team has been made.
