PRO STOCK TRUCK - FINAL QUALIFYING

LARRY KOPP, ACCURATE BINDING/G-FORCE TRANSMISSIONS CHEVY S-10, is No. 1 qualifier for the third time in four Pro Stock Truck races, with an e.t. of 7.720 seconds, at a top speed of 174.93 mph, both good enough for a track record at this inaugural event. Kopp holds the national e.t. record in Pro Stock Truck, 7.635 set in Houston this year.

KOPP: HOW DID THAT RUN COMPARE TO THE SLOWER EARLIER ONES?: "We predicted we'd run a .71, and we ran a .72. We're pretty happy with that. The first two runs we were getting a feel for the track." ON THIS NEW TRACK: "The track is very smooth. I didn't have any problem running it in the groove, it's nice and wide, it went down pretty straight in both runs, it's a real smooth track. The facility is beautiful, I'd like to have run a couple of races here." DID YOU HAVE TO DO A LOT OF WORK IN THE PITS?: "Anytime you go to a new track you have to find out what the track wants and you throw things at it and if it doesn't work you try again. " ON BILL "GRUMPY" JENKINS NOT BEING HERE: "We had communication with him two or three times and told him what we found. The weather here is a factor. These are the worst conditions atmospheric-wise we have run all year." ARE YOU HAVING FUN HERE? "It's a great event, it's wonderful." ARE YOU IN POSITION TO WIN YOUR THIRD RACE?: "You are always in a position to win back-to-back races, it puts more pressure on you and your team. You want to make the right calls, you don't want to make any mistakes. If I do my job we can win back-to-back races." WILL YOU MAKE MAJOR CHANGES FOR TOMORROW? "Not at all. We are going to stay where we're at...unless the weather changes drastically." ON LANE CHOICE: "They're pretty equal, but I do have a preference. We will all see tomorrow." IS THERE MORE WORK IN THE PITS IN THE PRO CLASSES?: "We don't leave any bolt unturned. I don't want to lose because of a mistake we made, only if we're beat."

JOHN LINGENFELTER, SUMMIT RACING EQUIPMENT CHEVY S-10, who held the No. 1 position for three qualifying rounds, is No. 2 qualifier, after Kopp snatched the pole away from him, 7.754/174.44.

LINGENFELTER: ARE YOU DISAPPOINTED? "Of course you're disappointed. We made some mistakes, you can't make mistakes and expect to be No. 1, especially in the fastest session. We just didn't have the clutch right." WERE YOU SURPRISED THAT KOPP TOOK NO. 1?: "No. I knew he could if he made a good run. He had bad 60-ft. times, we had better 60-ft. times (in previous runs). I knew we were close. If he left good I knew he would pick up. They're doing a real good job." WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO BEAT HIM?: "The race isn't over yet."
