Veteran tuner Rob Flynn joins Racebricks team
MADISON, Ill. (June 24, 2005) -- Gary Densham is going to have an extra set of eyes to watch over the progress of his Racebricks.com Chevy Monte Carlo starting this weekend. Densham and Racebricks CEO Marty Yacoobian have hired veteran crew chief Rob Flynn as a tuning consultant to work with Densham and lead tuner Greg Amaral.
Flynn will join the team before pro qualifying starts Friday for the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals at Gateway International Raceway.
"I think Rob is a great guy and we could really use his help," Densham said. "We have a young crew and Rob works so well with the crew guys and I think he is going to make everyone better. Plus, it never hurts to have an experienced tuner in your corner."
Flynn has spent more than 25 years in NHRA racing and has worked with several drivers including Pat Austin, Connie and Scott Kalitta, Larry Minor, Whit Bazemore, Jerry Toliver, Ken Veney, Del Worsham, Cruz Pedregon and most recently Doug Herbert.
"I think Gary is one of the best people in this sport and I'm excited to work with him," Flynn said. "I don't know anything about what they have been running, so I am going to have to catch up quick in order to be able to help them.
"I have a lot of experience with Funny Car racing so it's nice to be back with that category. I think what Gary and Greg want more than anything else is to be more consistent and I'm anxious to be able to help them with that."
This is the only three-day night race on the schedule. Pro qualifying starts at 5 and 8 p.m. today and Saturday. Final eliminations start at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
All of the action can be seen in high definition on ESPN2 starting with qualifying between 12 -- 1 a.m. (ET) Sunday. NHRA 2Day will air at 11:30 a.m. (ET) Sunday followed by the final elimination show at 9 p.m. (ET).
