RICHMOND, Va., (Oct. 6, 2007) -- At the Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in Richmond, Va., Dave Grubnic, driver of the Zantex-3 Top Fuel dragster, will lead the Kalitta Motorsports contingent into tomorrow's final eliminations with an added potential payday bonus.
Grubnic, the No. 6 qualifier (4.587 seconds, 314.02 mph), will race his Top Fuel teammate Doug Kalitta, driver of the Mac Tools Top Fueler and the No. 11 qualifier (4.619 sec., 314.83 mph), in the opening round of eliminations. The two veteran teammates will race against one another for the first time in the 2007 POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Also, by way of his lofty No. 6 qualifying spot, Grubnic acquires a spot in the field for the special event Technicoat Top Fuel Shootout which will be part of the racing festivities at the next NHRA national event in Las Vegas. The winner of the Technicoat Top Fuel Shootout earns a hefty sum of $100,000. Entering the event in Richmond, Grubnic was not qualified in the exclusive Technicoat Top Fuel Shootout field.
Scott Kalitta, driver of the DHL Toyota Solara Funny Car, qualified his nitro-fueled racing machine in the No. 11 spot (4.862 sec., 315.93 mph) for tomorrow's Funny Car eliminations. Scott will race against Funny Car championship points leader and No. 6 qualifier Tony Pedregon in round one.
