SECOND ROUND NOTES

PRO STOCK

KURT JOHNSON, AC DELCO CAMARO Z28, was eliminated in the second round by Jeg Coughlin (7.014/197.36 to 7.153/183.71). Kurt had the lead for 1000 feet, then slowed as Coughlin took the win at the finish line.

KURT: "In the first run (in the right lane) it kind of went right. I must have gotten in some dirt and dust. It was pulling me right all the way down the race track. I had to lift to get the Camaro back in control. I got off the throttle a little bit and got back into the center lane and got back on the throttle. At the finish line I had the steering wheel at 9:30-10 p.m. We came back and checked everything, everything looked fine. On this last run (in the left lane -- Kurt didn't have lane choice against Coughlin) it went left on the starting line real bad. We didn't know if something broke. It's not consistent. The Camaro has been real consistent. Then it hit those bumps out there and I was getting ready to scrape some paint. That's the worst bouncing run I've made in my five-year history. It was going to run 7.10 maybe, it was bouncing so hard. I stayed with it until I saw him drive by. It was going to either swap ends or do something else stupid."

FUNNY CAR

CHUCK ETCHELLS, KENDALL/MAMA ROSA'S PIZZA/SUPERWINCH CAMARO Z28, continues to advance as he defeats Randy Anderson in the second round (5.061/296.24 to 8.861/90.92). Etchells faces John Force in the semifinals.
