Mohnton, Pa. (Sept. 16): One day after struggling to get her car down the Maple Grove Raceway quarter-mile, rookie Top Fuel pilot, Melanie Troxel ran a career best e.t. to vault to the No. 3 qualifying position.

Troxel started the second day of qualifying by running a career best e.t. of 4.576 at 312.57 mph to jump to the top half of the ladder. "That's the way this car is supposed to run," exclaimed Troxel, "we got all of our bad luck out of the way yesterday."

Equally impressive was Troxel's eighth mile speed of 271 mph. Her teammate, Tony Schumacher ran the same eighth mile mph on Friday night on his 324 mph blast.

In the final session, Troxel was forced to shut her Exide dragster off as it drifted towards the centerline. She recorded a 5.236 e.t. at 188.86 mph.

"As soon as the car got out of the grove, it started to spin the tires and go towards the centerline," said Troxel, "at that point all you can do is shut it off."

After an impressive 320 mph run in Indy two weeks ago and her 4.576 second pass at Maple Grove, Troxel is now the fastest and quickest female competitor in NHRA history.

Troxel will start No. 3 in final eliminations and will face Luigi Novelli in the opening round. Novelli qualified No. 14 with a 4.815 e.t. at 291.01 mph. Final eliminations are scheduled to begin at 11am.
