DIXON TAKES POINTS LEAD TO READING - Larry Dixon will take a 69-point lead into this weekend's Toyo Tires Nationals with just three races remaining in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Dixon has led the title chase since winning at Las Vegas in mid-April, with Reading marking the 15th consecutive event that Dixon has entered as the series point leader. Dixon also currently leads the series in wins (11), number one qualifiers (seven) and elimination round victories (55).
LANGDON PEAKING AT RIGHT TIME -- After suffering through a mild case of the sophomore slump in mid-season, Shawn Langdon appears to be peaking at the right time. The Southern California native advanced to the semi-finals in the Countdown opener in Indianapolis and then made his first finals appearance of the season in the most recent event in Dallas. With the strong run, he's climbed from eighth to sixth in the championship race. He's just 19 points out of fifth and only 23 points out of fourth.
FIGHTING HIS OWN WAR -- Cruz Pedregon's late-season surge saw him fall just short of the Countdown, but not making the playoffs hasn't slowed the two-time Funny Car champion's efforts at all. Pedregon has scored the third-highest total number of points over the first three playoff races. He's registered 240 points during that span, just 14 behind Matt Hagan and 11 behind Ashley Force-Hood.
LAST YEAR IN READING -- Larry Dixon defeated Tony Schumacher, Shawn Langdon and Spencer Massey to earn his first career victory at Reading in 2009. Both Langdon and Antron Brown advanced to the semi-finals, while Morgan Lucas qualified second, but was upset in the opening round. The two current Toyota Camry Solara Funny Car entries met in the first round with Del Worsham getting the best of Cruz Pedregon before being eliminated in the second round.
