Third Round Qualifying:
An early morning rain curtailed action at the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals for a couple of hours Saturday morning at Maple Grove Raceway. The track conditions remained ideal after the morning showers. Troy Coughlin continued to impress with another consistent run. Troy's yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order machine launced well running an impressive at the 330 ft. mark. The car shifted slightly right out of the groove down track. Troy calmy guided his Jeg's Chevrolet Cavalier back into the middle of the groove and ran an improving 6.831 second run at 202.58 mph.
"I can't say enough about our crew here at Team Jeg's," said Troy. "The performance just keeps improving on my Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet. Hopefully we can keep it moving in the right direction."
Jeg Coughlin ran a 6.874 second run at 200 mph in Saturday's first qualifying session despite having his hands full as his Jeg's Mail Order racecar moved significantly down track.
"We had a pretty good run going, but we were on the aggressive side the car started moving around at half track," commented Jeg. "There were some awesome runs in that session. Conditions are really great right now. We'll make some adjustments on our Jeg's machine and have it ready to go for the final round of qualifying."
Fourth Round Qualifying:
Troy Coughlin continued to shine in the fourth round with an even quicker ET of 6.825 seconds at an exceptional 201.21 mph. The Jeg's Mail Order machine streaked down the quarter mile in fine fashion, carrying Troy to another strong qualifying performance.
"It's a great feeling to improve with each round," said Troy. "The crew back at the shop has been working so hard preparing engines that could be competitive. It looks like we are on our way to getting a handle on it. It was great to see Jeg run so well. We'll compare some notes tonight and see what the first round brings us tomorrow."
Jeg Coughlin entered the final round with his back against the wall. After three qualifying rounds, Jeg found himself three spots out of the top sixteen qualifiers. When the pressure was on, Team Jeg's delivered. Jeg ran a career best pass of 6.778 seconds with a blistering speed of 202.64 mph. In one pass, the reigning Winston Champion went from the outside of the field to the No.2 qualifying position.
"We went into the last session on the outside looking in. We had no choice but to throw the book at our Jeg's Cavalier. Everyone at team Jeg's remained focused, and delivered a ride that was a rocket from start to finish. I'm really proud of our guys, they never gave up. It's good to have both of the Jeg's cars in the field for Sunday."
Both Jeg and Troy start eliminations from the bottom half of the ladder. Troy from the No.14 position and Jeg from the No.2 spot. The Coughlin brothers will look to make it an all Jeg's semifinal when eliniations begin at the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals on Sunday.
