Team Jeg's is ready for new beginning
Maple Grove Raceway is a track that smiles on the Pro Stock class. The naturally aspirated 500 cubic inch engines can create enormous horsepower in Reading if the conditions are right. The track is surrounded by thick woods and the trees are an increased oxygen source for the factory hot rods.
Team Jeg's has had moderate success in Reading. Last year Jeg was defeated in the semifinal round and Troy went out in round one. Jeg left the track as the winner in 1999. In 1998 Jeg went out in the semifinal round and Troy's day ended in the second round.
There are six races remaining in the 2001 NHRA Winston Drag Racing season. Jeg Coughlin Jr is currently sitting in the No. 5 position in the points chase. He has 982 points and can move as high as the No. 3 spot with a strong performance. Troy Coughlin is in the No. 19 spot with 374 points.
"Our program is focused on the big picture and finishing the season with a bang. Team Jeg's is capable of winning every race that we enter and that is our intention at each race," explained Jeg.
"We have been hurt by mistakes that we have made as a group this year. Our No. 1 goal for the rest of the season is to eliminate the mistakes that we have control over. If that variable is eliminated you will see both of these yellow and black Jeg's Chevy Cavaliers winning rounds," added Troy.
High on the agenda for Team Jeg's heading into the Keystone Nationals is having multiple in-house engines ready to go and be a competitive threat between the frame rails of the team's Pro Stock entries.
"We are really excited to have our own engines that we have developed from the oil pan up. Our guys have been putting in long hours and we will do our best to see that their dedication and hard work pay off in the way of a win for Team Jeg's," said Jeg.
"I really look at this weekend as a new beginning for Team Jeg's. We control our destiny and that is a great feeling for everyone involved with Team Jeg's," commented Troy.
At the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals Mike Coughlin debuted the first in-house engine for the Pro Stock Truck program and ran the table. He qualified No. 1 and left Indianapolis Raceway Park as the Pro Stock Truck winner. In the process he became the only two-time Pro Stock Truck winner of the most prestigious race in drag racing.
