Reading; Sunday! The Ashland Assassin's make their bones with a first round win at Reading. Scott "The Light Mechanic" Weis defeated Skuza's 5.047 with a 5.037 after strapping the mother of all hole shots on Skuza's Matco Dodge. Red hot Weis pulled this off as well as winning the Red Roof Inns Quick Light Challenge for the second race in a row.

In the second round Weis drew Pedregon, and as the old saying goes "you live by the light, you die by the light", and Weis lit the 0.328 red eye and ended their weekend. Weis would have needed it too as Pedregon went 4.99, and even another perfect light would not have made up the difference. Weis said "We are really happy getting our first round win this weekend, and winning with that hole shot against one of my former sponsors made it really sweet. This win this weekend was for Tootee, who always said he wanted my first win to be clean and not a 'gimme'. I called him just after the race to tell him that I had not let him down. The Tootees house car never lets us down, and this is the second race in a row where we have had a clean weekend and not destroyed any engines. This round was a long time coming, and may not seem like much, but this is not a bush league game, and to do any good over here it takes a million little steps like the one we made today. This proves we can win, and even though our budget is low if I do my job, the car and equipment can be competitive, and it can only go up from here."

"I want to say a special thanks to Red Roof Inns for awarding me the Quick Light Challenge. It is an honor to be involved with them and the NHRA, and all the good people who support championship drag racing. I want to also give a special thanks to Bob Frye for never forgetting to mention all my sponsors, and because he was as nearly excited as we were on our first win. Thanks also to Bruce's Super Body Shops, Tootees Race Cars, Shesayso Productions, Chuck's Brush Works, the Wiseguys, Wisegirls, and all of my fans and supporters."
