Troy Coughlin and his yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Olds Cutlass was the first of the two identical looking team cars to take on the track at Maple Grove Raceway. The car darted off of the line and followed the center of the groove to the big end. Troy ran a 6.886 at 199.23 mph and moved up 10 positions to land in the No. 8 spot after three sessions.
"That was a much better run," commented Troy. "We are closer to where we need to be. We learned a lot in the first two qualifying sessions and it showed during the third session."
Jeg Coughlin, Jr. blasted down the right lane. The car blasted out of the gate and rocketed to the finish line. Jeg made a much improved run. He ran a 6.875 at 200.08 mph and landed in the No. 4 spot with one session to improve.
"The car responded a lot better during the third session," explained Jeg. "The guys are doing a great job tuning this hot rod."
Troy started the final session sitting in the No. 8 spot and was looking to improve. The Jeg's machine took off from the beams and headed to the stripe. Troy did not improve in his final attempt and he slipped to the No. 11 position. He ran a 6.887 at 199.02 mph. Troy will face off against Jim Yates in the first round.
"We were off a little bit on our set up. We know what we did and we know how t fix it," said Troy. "We will be ready to play in the quarter-mile sandbox tomorrow."
During the final session Jeg ran a 6.876 at 198.93 mph. The run was not an improvement and he fell to the No. 7 slot. Jeg will go head-to-head with Mike Thomas in the opening round.
"The was not the run that we were looking for. The conditions were right for us to improve," explained Jeg. "We just crossed a line that we should not have. Now that we crossed it we know where it is."
