POST-RACE NOTES: PIONEER ELECTRONICS KEYSTONE NATIONALS,
SEPT. 11-14, READING, PA.
*Cory McClenathan tied an NHRA Top Fuel record by appearing in his sixth consecutive final round in the McDonald's Dragster owned by former NFL coach Joe Gibbs. McClenathan won four straight races -- the Mopar Parts Mile-High Nationals, Autolite Nationals, Northwest Nationals and Champion Auto Stores Nationals -- and was runner-up at the U.S. Nationals before winning this event. Scott Kalitta also appeared in six consecutive finals in 1994, winning four.
*Cory McClenathan was fifth in the NHRA Winston standings June 30, 413 behind leader Gary Scelzi. McClenathan has won five of six races since then to pull to within 75 points of Scelzi.
*Lee Beard guided driver Kenny Bernstein to a runner-up finish in his debut as crew chief of the Budweiser King Dragster. Beard replaced Dale Armstrong, who parted company with Bernstein on Sept. 8 after nearly 16 years as crew chief.
*John Force's lead over second-place Whit Bazemore grew to 194 points after winning the event in the Castrol GTX Ford Mustang, Force's biggest gap since leading by 195 after the Sears Craftsman Nationals in late June at Madison, Ill. PRO STOCK

Nance, from Akron, Ohio, qualified for the fourth time this season, taking 14th in the Catch 22 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Both lost in the first round.
