READING, Pa. (Sept. 13) - NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points leader, Larry Dixon drove his Dick LaHaie-tuned Miller Lite dragster to the provisional No. 1 qualifying position for the running of the 18th annual Lucas Oil Nationals at the Maple Grove Raceway after covering the quarter-mile distance in 4.560 seconds at a speed of 320.28 mph in Friday night's session.

"We had a tight track tonight," said Dixon with a smile. "It was as good as you could ask for or want. I think the setup of the car is more of a factor than anything. I contribute this run to what we learned in our testing at Indianapolis before the U.S. Nationals. We ran during the day, but we also ran at night without any sun on the track, making it a tight racetrack and letting us know what we could do and not do.

"It was a great run-it was fun. It kicked up the front end going down the racetrack. This place is awesome. We've seen records in the past broken here under the right conditions. We're far from breaking any records this year, but still it was the best of the session, so I was happy about that."

Dixon will get two more qualifying opportunities on Saturday to improve on his time and prepare for Sunday's race with sessions starting at 12:45 and 3:45 p.m. EDT. ESPN2 will air qualifying highlights starting on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
