Rain Forces Re-Scheduling of Season Opener

POMONA, CA 2/24/04 "So far, thing's are going fine," said Mark "Cowboy" Pawuk with a smile on his face. "We're in the top half of the field, and even though we only made one run, I think we've got a little something left in our Summit Racing Pontiac."

Like everyone else, Pawuk was deeply disappointed that the season-opening Winternationals was rained out, but as he said, "We're all in the same boat, and as much of a pain as (the rainout) is, we'll just have to get through it.

"I am a little bummed because our team's been on the road for about three straight weeks, and I know the guys were hoping to be heading home on Monday, but now they're stuck in California for another week. That costs everyone, from the racers to the fans, a lot of extra money. Nobody wins when there's a rainout."

The action will re-commence this coming Friday with a single pro qualifying session, followed by two more on Saturday and then eliminations on Sunday afternoon. "Anything can happen between now and Sunday," Pawuk said. "The other guys could step up and move us back, but I think we're capable of stepping up, too. We'll just have to wait and see how the weather is. That'll play a big role in how qualifying plays out."
