TONY PEDREGON STARTS 2006 SEASON IN THE #4 QUALIFYING POSITION, BUT EXITS EARLY AT POMONA
POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2006) -- Tony Pedregon, owner and driver of the Q Funny Car Team, qualified strong in the number four position going into Sunday's season opening CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals at the Auto Club Raceway.
The Q Funny Car Team ran a 4.713-second 327.19 mph effort qualifying fourth in the quickest Funny Car field in NHRA history. Tony faced Del Worsham in the first round where he is 25-14 against Worsham. Tony also opened the 2006 NHRA POWERade season with 298 round wins. However, a slight misread in data sent the Q Funny Car Team to an early first round loss.
"Our problem in the first round stemmed from a misreading from our weather station," explained Tony Pedregon, 2003 NHRA Funny Car Champion. "The end result was the car having more power that it needed and losing traction. Locating the problem makes this much easier to fix. I am very encouraged going to Phoenix. I know that we can run with anyone."
In 2005, Tony Pedregon and the Q Power Race Team finished 7th in points with 2 wins, #1 qualifier three times and recorded the second quickest elapsed time in NHRA history at 4.680 seconds in Chicago.
Next up is the Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals in Phoenix, Ariz., Feb. 24-26. (ESPN2)
