Team Jeg's Looks To Start Season Strong in Pomona
The Pro Stock brother duo of Jeg and Troy Coughlin are excited and optimistic about their chances at the NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series season opener at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA February 7-10. The drivers of the Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavaliers' have never been ones to loom on what has happened in the past, yet they can't help but smile when they think of the good fortunes they have shared at this particular event.
In the past three seasons, Jeg and Troy have combined for four final round appearances, two wins, and the team's first all-Jeg's final in 1999 at this event. They are hoping to build upon their past successes with a strong showing at this year's event.
"Pomona has typically been a good track for Team Jeg's," commented Jeg. "We have had some success in recent years, but we can't rely on past performances. The competition in Pro Stock continues to strengthen and races are being decided by smaller margins each year." "I think the fans are going to be in for quite a show at the series season opener," continued Jeg. "It would be asn honor to win the first NHRA POWERade Series Race."
A lot of things can happen over the off season and for Troy Coughlin 2002 has already started on a positive note. Troy's and his wife Julie celebrated the birth of their daughter Kelly January 15.
"I had a really enjoyable off-season," commented Troy. "It's was nice to have some extra time to spend with the family and the arrival of little Kelly was a special moment for the entire family." "The team has been working really hard over the break," continued Troy. "Hopefully we can start the season off in fine fashion by putting some yellow and black in the winners circle."
Both Troy and Jeg look to Pomona as a spring board for their long term goals for the 2002 season.
"My biggest goal is to always be a competitive threat at every race," said Troy. "I want to remain consistent each weekend and always be in the hunt for the victory."
"Our main goal is to be the inaugural POWERade Pro Stock Champion," said Jeg. "I believe it will take a string of consistent wins and late round finishes to accomplish this feat. Ten races will have to be in our possession to make it possible, and qualifying for all twenty-three events will have to come without question." "Another goal for Team Jeg's is to continue to impact our ever growing fan population by bringing excitement from the pit area and the race track through in-car audio and onboard camera's," continued Jeg. "These goals are very reachable for Team Jeg's in 2002. So stay tuned and enjoy the ride!" Qualifying for the 42nd Annual K&N Filter NHRA Winternationals will begin February 7.
