Randy Daniels, Bailey Trucking Chevrolet S-10
"I am happy to start out the year on top. It is a big improvement over our DNQ from last year. Now if we can just keep up this pace we will be all right.
"We made four good runs this weekend. The racetrack and the weather has not really been a problem for us, but I have seen a lot of the other guys struggling with it. The hotter it gets; the better we like it. The heat hasn't been a problem for us, but it seems like the other guys can't get a handle on the track. I hope it's hot tomorrow."
Bob Panella, Panella Trucking/ Ranger Boats Chevrolet S-10
**Panella set a national speed record of 181.42 mph on Thursday.
"I am glad to have the record, but I wish it was worth a little more than bragging rights. Points would be nice, but we'll take it. Speed was one of the things that we worked on this winter. We concentrated on the places where we were lacking and speed was one of them. It is gratifying to see our hard work pay off."
Scott Perin, Napa Development Chevrolet S-10
"This weekend we have built on what we found at the end of last season. The last four races we really started to pick up, but we also did a lot of hard work over the winter. We are building on all of that. We are very please with the way the truck is responding. We are also pleased with the Jenkins horsepower we have."
Don Smith, Texas Harley-Davidson Chevrolet S-10
"We broke a motor in Houston at the warm-up. In the first session we had to put in our number 3 motor. We did that to get a baseline on this racetrack. We put our number 1 motor back in and picked up .020 of a second in the second session. That is the way we want to go. We are very happy to be qualified in the top half of the field going into eliminations tomorrow"
Todd Patterson, Dodge Motorsports Dodge Dakota
"I am real please with the way the truck is running. I thought this last session would be quite a bit slower. The fact that we picked up .018 in what should have been the bad session, is really something. I am glad to be in the top half now. I think it is going to get warmer tomorrow. If that happens, no one will improve, and then we will be where want to be for eliminations.
Joe Pigford, Full Boar Motorsports Chevrolet S-10
"With this Haas truck, Jenkins horsepower and Brad Jeter calling the shots that is where these runs have come from. Brad and Bill have really turned us around since Houston.
"I was about ready to get out of racing, but we ran so good in Houston that we decided we couldn't sit out Pomona. Now we are running so good here we are going to have to run the whole season.
"I thought I was done racing at the end of last year. I tried to sell all my stuff, but I couldn't just let all this equipment sit there and not do anything with it. I'm glad I didn't now. We are racing on Sunday and I'm happy."
Eliminations at the 41st Annual AutoZone WinterNationals get under way at 11:00 PST on Sunday Feb. 4.
