POMONA, Ca. (Nov. 11) - In February Steve Johns came to the Pomona Raceway for the WinterNationals for the first race of the year and qualified his Pro Stock Truck in the Number 1 position.

Today at the close of qualifying at the 15th Annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., Steve Johns has once again placed his Castrol Super Clean Chevy S-10 on the top of the eliminations ladder.

"That was the plan coming into to this race," said Johns. "We really wanted to put book-ends on the season with a Number 1 qualifier at the WinterNationals and the finals."

Charlie Greco, driver of the Greco Motorsports Chevrolet S-10, posted a stellar performance this weekend qualifying his truck 14th. Greco will meet Greg Stanfield in Round 1 of eliminations.

"I'm just happy to be in the show," said Greco. "Stanfield is always a tough customer, but I am going to have to take a shot at him. With a field this tight, anyone can win on Sunday. We are within striking distance. We could take him tomorrow, I just need to be on my game."

Steve Farr, driver of the Jerry Haas Racing Chevrolet S-10, placed his truck in the tenth position in the third session when he ran a 7.525 / 179.21 mph. This comes after a string on DNQ's.

"It feels good to qualify again," said Farr. "We haven't qualified at the last couple races, so I'm very happy to be tenth.

"We made a good, straight run. We ran a good number, but I think we can do better. We keep throwing clutch at the truck and it keeps getting better. We have room to pick up tomorrow. I think we will be all right."

Eliminations at the 15th Annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals begins promptly at 11:00 Am PST.
