Thursday was the first day of qualifying for the professional classes. The Pro Stock Trucks will get one qualifying session tomorrow and two additional sessions on Saturday before the fields are set for raceday.

John Coughlin was the first of the two identical looking yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10's to take on the Pomona Raceway. The Jeg's machine launched from the beams and followed the groove to the big end. John ran a 7.633 at 176.79 mph and landed in the No. 15 spot after the first session.

"We have been working on the fuel delivery system a lot lately," said John. "Although we did not make a great run, we learned a lot during our first run of the weekend."

Mike Coughlin ran out of the left lane during the first session. He ran a 7.640 at 176.21 mph and ended up in the No. 17 position.

"We learned a lot during our first run," explained Mike. "We will be ready tomorrow to improve our positions."
