Thursday was the first day of qualifying for the professional classes. The Pro Stock class our scheduled for one qualifying session tomorrow and two additional sessions on Saturday before the fields are set for raceday.

Troy Coughlin blasted off of the starting line and headed straight down the middle of the groove in the left lane. He ran a 6.946 at 198.00 mph in the first qualifying session and landed in the No. 5 slot.

"It always feels good to make a good run right out of the trailer," said Troy. "We have a strong baseline to tune from for the rest of the weekend, which is always a big plus."

Jeg rolled into the right lane during the first session. The yellow and black Olds Cutlass rocketed off of the line. The car hooked up with the track and grabbed the No. 1 spot on the first day of qualifying. He ran a 6.922 at 197.59 mph.

"We made a good run and learned a lot about the track during the first run," said Jeg. "I think that we will continue to improve tomorrow and will see runs in the 6.80's."
