Jeg Has Sights Set On Third Pro Stock Championship
Jeg Coughlin, Jr will return to one of the tracks where the 33-year old two-time NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion has had success. He has scored two wins and a runner-up finish out of the six times he has competed in Pro Stock at the season opener at Pomona Raceway.
Added the fact that both of Coughlin's professional championships have happened in even years. He first won the Pro Stock championship in 2000 and then again in 2002. Since 1998 Jeg has never finished lower then 5th in the championship and he has won at least one NHRA national event in Pro Stock each year since 1997.
Jeg has won 33 races in NHRA's most competitive professional class in his short career behind the wheel of a factory hot rod. He ranks 3rd on the all-time win list in Pro Stock and is the 10th most winning in the sport with 45 victories.
Two very productive pre season test sessions have Jeg feeling very upbeat going into the 2004 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season. Jeg will have a new 2004 Chevy Cavalier to compete in 2004 with. The new yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order entry was built at Jerry Bickel Race Cars and sports the new sleeker front end.
Jeg and his team are well aware of what it takes to win a championship.
They understand the importance of having a strong start, but also know that there are 23 events.
"Our goal is to win the 2004 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock championship," explained Jeg. "We need to start off strong and eliminate our mistakes. We have 23 races again this season. There is a lot that will and can unfold in 23 races. We need to consistently perform on and off the track every week."
