PERIN REPLACES HAAS IN DRIVER'S SEAT FOR FINALS
Pomona, Calif. - - Jerry Haas, from Fenton, Mo., owner of the Jerry Haas Race Cars, Inc. Chevy S-10 Pro Stock Truck, announced today that he is stepping aside and placing Scott Perin, from Pen Argyle, Pa., in the driver's seat for the NHRA AAA Auto Club of Southern California Finals being contested the weekend of November 8-11 at Pomona Raceway on the grounds of the LA County Fairplex in Pomona, Calif.
Haas, who reassumed the driving duties at this year's Pontiac Excitement Nationals presented by Summit Racing in Columbus, Ohio, feel this will give Perin the opportunity to finish in the top ten in Winston Pro Stock Truck points.
"Scott wasn't running all that well at Dallas and was going to skip Pomona. I told him, ' I'm going out there (Pomona), why don't you come and drive my truck.' I'm proud to have him drive this Chevy S-10 in the final truck race. Hopefully, we can pick it (the performance) up some. We're going to put our heads together and see if we can come up with something to make it run and keep Scott in the top ten in the Winston point battle," said Haas, who is still working on his racing program for the 2002 season.
"We had engine problems at Dallas and didn't qualify. Because Pomona is the final event of the season and the last ever for Pro Stock Trucks we didn't see a need to spend a lot of time to find and fix the problem. Jerry Haas and I have talked before about teaming up and this seemed like the perfect time to do just that," said Perin, who enters this last race ninth in the Winston point standings.
"This should insure a top ten finish for me this season. I appreciate the opportunity that Jerry has given me and hopefully I can do my part with a good showing at Pomona," concluded Perin.
The AAA Auto Club of Southern California Finals at Pomona will mark the final race of the 2001 schedule together with the final professional event for Pro Stock Trucks. NHRA has decided to reduce the number of professional categories and have reclassified the truck class, allowing them to run in one of several classes in the Federal-Mogul Division.
