Tony Pedregon Fifth After First Session of Qualifying
Q Racing Ready to Maximize Strong Opening

POMONA, Calif. (Nov 3, 2005) -- Tony Pedregon, driver of the Q Racing Nitro Funny Car, made an early statement by taking the fifth slot to start this weekend's 41st Annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Nationals at historic Pomona Raceway.

Pedregon, who has already scored 14, top-eight qualifying efforts this season- including the No.1 qualifier in the opening event in Pomona, clicked off a 4.778-second elapsed time at 322.58 mph. The 2003 NHRA Funny Car champion is optimistic about what lies ahead.

"It was a very good way to start the weekend," Pedregon said. "We were prepared to be more aggressive, but after reading the conditions, it didn't cool off as much as we expected- we decided to pull off a little. When you pull off and the car runs in the 4.77s, it's very encouraging.

"This facility has a high-powered track and we have one of the high-powered cars," Pedregon continued. "The Q car makes a lot of horsepower; Q products make a lot of horsepower. I feel we left something on the table here (Pomona) at the beginning of the season, but now we're in a good position to strike and do something bigger and better.
