TONY PEDREGON'S Q HORSEPOWER TEAM FOCUSED ON CONSISTENT PERFORMACE AT THE FINALS
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 1, 2007) -- With a 91 point lead in the NHRA POWERade Series Countdown to 1, Tony Pedregon and his Q Horsepower team are heading into this weekend's Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in position to clinch his second Funny Car World Championship and his first as an owner.
Pedregon, the 2003 NHRA Nitro Funny Car World Champion, knows he needs to continue his consistent performance that yielded him the top spot in the Countdown to 1. He needs only to qualify into the 16-car field to claim the 2007 POWERade Series World Championship provided there are no national records set at the Auto Club Finals.
"We have a good lead," said Pedregon, a four-time national event winner this year. "To protect it, we'll want to take away any opportunity that our competitors have to catch us.
"Our strategy, as it is every race, is to read the conditions. We'll pay close attention to the weather and track conditions and try to put the car in the show from the outset. By the time we go out for qualifying, I should have all the distractions out of my sight and it'll be time for us to focus on the job at hand."
Born and raised in Southern California, Pedregon considers the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, where he is a four-time winner, his home track and one of his favorites. Two of these wins, in 2005 and 1997, came at the NHRA Finals.
