Coughlin's have improving on their minds.

The first of the four scheduled professional qualifying sessions started on Thursday at Pomona Raceway. The Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals is the last race on the 23 race NHRA POWERade Drag racing schedule.

Troy Coughlin started off the batting order for Team Jeg's. He launched from the starting line and was forced to shut off.

"We were just too aggressive for the track and we got bit. Tomorrow is a new day and we will be ready when the sun comes up," said Troy.

Team Jeg's put their newest creation between the frame rails in Jeg Coughlin's Chevy Cavalier. Jeg posted a run of 6.864 at 201.19 mph in the right lane and landed in the No. 13 position.

"We have got some homework to do before we go down the track again tomorrow. The engine was sluggish and responded like it was fat. It is nothing that our group cannot fix," explained Jeg.

Team Jeg's will focus on improving their respective qualifying positions when qualifying resumes for the factory hot rod class on Friday. The final two sessions will be run on Saturday.
