LUCAS RETURNS TO COMPETITIVE FORM

POMONA, CA. (Nov. 9) -- Morgan Lucas returned to his competitive form at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway, running a time of 4.567 seconds at a speed of 324.75-mph to place him in the eighth position during Thursday's NHRA Top Fuel qualifying.

Lucas, who was the runner-up at this race in 2004, has distinctly been building momentum and proved his team's worth today on a scale of upward and onward.

"Upward and onward is exactly right," smiled Lucas. "That run puts us back in the competitive car category. I'm excited about it and proud of my team.

"We tested after the Las Vegas race and tried some new things. A little outside help gave us encouragement with our crew chiefs (John Stewart and Ronnie Thompson) dealing with the changes and now everything is turning out great. We will hopefully be going some rounds on Sunday enabling us to get back in the Top 10 in the POWERade points. It's a big deal and we want to be back on stage for the awards ceremony. We're hoping we can do it for Sunday, but we still have three more days of this."

Qualifying continues on Friday with one session at 2:30 p.m. followed by two more on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
