POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 8) -- There are no more next weeks for Larry Morgan and the Lucas Oil Pro Stock Ford Mustang.
Morgan has battled through one of the toughest seasons of his storied career while developing the Ford Pro Stock engine program, but he's determined to cap the season by bringing home a victory at this weekend's 46th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals.
"We're back at the shop working, trying to pick up more power," Morgan said. "We want be beat up on everyone next year. And we're just as ready to go this weekend.
"We're throwing everything we've got at it."
Like he has been all season, Morgan and his team have been busy at the shop trying new combinations for the engine on the dyno. However, Morgan said he left his car out West following the last tour stop in Las Vegas and he's not been able to test these new tune-ups on his race motor.
"We do R&D here all the time," Morgan said. "We have found some things on this spare engine we've been working on that has shown some promise. If my truck were here, we'd try it on our race engine.
"We're working on that and some stuff for my Lucas Oil teammate Hector Arana. We stay pretty busy with this stuff, I can tell you that. We're not sitting around playing cards by any means."
The corporate headquarters for Lucas Oil is in nearby Corona, Calif., so Morgan said he's got extra motivation to put on a good show this weekend.
"It's a huge deal for everybody at Lucas Oil," Morgan said. "It's the end of the year, and you want to do well. You want to put forward everything you've worked on all year, and show a little bit at the end of the year.
"We want to do it for the Lucas Oil fans and employees out there. It's a big thing for everyone and I hope all of our Lucas Oil teams do well."
