Jeg Looks For One More Win In 2003
The 39th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals marks the 23rd and final race on the 23-event NHRA POWERade Drag Racing schedule. Although the Pro Stock championship for the 2003 season has been decided, winning the final race of the year is a way to set the tone among your competitors during the off-season.
Jeg Coughlin has been extremely successful at Pomona Raceway in recent years. The two-time Pro Stock champion won the final event in 1999 and has scored a runner up finish twice (2000 & 1998) to end the season. Jeg has never failed to qualify for the season finale at Pomona Raceway.
"We always look forward to racing at Pomona Raceway," said Jeg. "The fans are great and it is an exciting race to be a part of."
Jeg will enter the final race of the season sitting in the No. 3 position in the NHRA POWERade championship. He has scored two wins (Sonoma & Chicago 2) in Pro Stock and one in Super Stock (St. Louis). In addition, Jeg has five runner up finishes (Gainesville, Chicago 1, Denver, Memphis & Dallas) so far this season and was the No. 1 qualifier in Memphis.
The 33-year old second generation driver holds the longest active qualifying streak at 35 events in Pro Stock. Jeg is one of only two drivers who have qualified for each event during the 2003 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season.
"Being one of only two drivers to qualify at each event so far this season is a real testament to our team," explained Jeg. "Our in-house engine program has made solid gains since the end of July and we look forward to continuing to work as hard as ever during the off-season. We have a great group of guys that are dedicated to being successful on and off the track. We would like nothing more then to end this season on a high note by winning the final race of the year."
