The thirst of winning is sometimes hard for the competitive to quench. Jeg Coughlin is no exception. The 33-year old two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion goes to each and every NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event with the goal of winning.
"I am a pretty competitive person no matter what I am doing; within reason," said Jeg. "I am a glass is half-full type of person. To me it doesn't matter if I am behind the wheel with my safety equipment on or behind the desk at Jeg's. I think having yourself in the right positive frame of mind is worth a ton in any situation. If you don't think you can win or you can't do it -- your not going to!"
Jeg has won a total of 45 NHRA national events in his relatively short career. The versatile second-generation driver is the only driver in NHRA history to win NHRA national events in four separate competition classes in a single season. Jeg is the 10th on the all-time NHRA win list with 45 NHRA national event victories and looks forward to many years to come behind the wheel.
In 1997 he scored victories in Competition Eliminator, Super Gas, Super Stock and Pro Stock. The win in Competition Eliminator was his first NHRA national event he entered in the class. He also had a victory in Pro Stock in only his second NHRA national event he entered.
"I have been fortunate to learn from a number of great racers before I ever got behind the wheel in NHRA competition," explained Jeg. "My pop (Jeg Sr.), my mother, brothers (John, Troy and Mike), my wife Karen and little Jeggie have been instrumental to me both on and off of the track".
