Jason Line claims seventh No. 1 of 2006
POMONA, Calif. (November 11, 2006) -- For the 18th time this year a Summit Racing Pontiac has qualified No. 1. This race it was Jason Line who took the top spot at the 42nd annual NHRA Auto Club Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona (Calif.) being held this weekend.
Additional, it was the seventh time this season that Line and teammate Greg Anderson have finished one-two on the final qualifying ladder.
Line's best qualifying pass was a track-record elapsed time of 6.663 seconds at a speed of 207.59 mph. It is the 33rd time this year that a Pontiac GTO has set and/or reset an elapsed time or top speed record.
"It's great to be No. 1," said Line, who now has seven No. 1 in 2006 and 11 in his career. "Both cars are running great. (Co-crew chiefs) Rob (Downing) and Jeff (Perley) and all the guys are doing a fantastic job. (Even though the left lane is better), Greg's run in the right lane was pretty sporty. I didn't do a very good job of driving or I think my run would have been better. It was the best conditions of the weekend (on that run)."
Line and teammate Anderson will finish one-two respectively in the final NHRA POWERade point standings, the fourth consecutive year that a KB Racing LLC Pontiac, sponsored by Summit Racing Equipment has won the championship.
Line, who locked up the 2006 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Championship at the NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals last race, will line up his KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pontiac GTO, against Jim Yates in the first round of eliminations tomorrow. Yates qualified No. 1 with a run of 6.714 seconds at 206.13 mph.
The Minnesota-born, North Carolina- transplant Line begins his quest for the Auto Club Finals Top Fuel title on Sunday with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. Time is local Pomona time (PT) and subject to change at anytime.
