POMONA, Calif. -- This weekend's 38th annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals marks the end of the 2003 POWERade drag racing season. The season may be ending but Greg Anderson driver of the Vegas General Construction Pontiac Grand Am does not want to stop racing.
"I keep saying it, but I truly have the best race team on this parking lot," said Anderson of Charlotte, NC. "It is to bad that the season is ending, because this Vegas General Construction team just gets better and better with each race.
"We have won a lot of races this year. It is almost a shame that this is the last race. I am not trying to brag, but I think if the season was longer, we could go on winning races. These guys are just now hitting their stride. I would like to keep going just to see how many races we could win, but at some point, everyone needs time off.
"Believe me this is a team effort; I do not win races by myself. Everyone on this team works their butts off both on and off the racetrack. My crew in the pits: Rob Downing, Jeff Perley, and Jason Line, are the best out there. It is hard to believe that they have only been together for one season. They are so in sync when the work; it is an amazing thing to watch.
"Combine that with what we have going on back home in the motor shop. The result is a combination of personnel and horsepower that is the envy of every Pro Stock team owner out here; and we do it all for Ken Black.
"This is the last race of the year. I would be neat if we could finish out this season by breaking (Darrell) Alderman's win record, and (John) Force's round win record. We have a good chance of breaking those records. If we can break those records, we will have exceeded every goal we have made for ourselves this year.
"We know that all eyes will be on this weekend, but for this Vegas General Construction team it will be business as usual. We will approach this race as we do every other race. I am confident if we stick to our game plan, this will be one for the record books."
Qualifying at the 38th annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals will take place on Thursday November 6 through Saturday November 8. Eliminations will begin at 11:00 AM PST on Sunday November 9.
