Herbert's 'For My Boys' Tour Finishes this Weekend in Pomona
Doug Herbert and the Snap-on team will compete in the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals from the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif., this weekend, Nov. 13-16. This marks the end of the 2008 season, which Herbert dubbed the 'For My Boys' Tour in memory of his sons, Jon and James, who were killed in a tragic auto accident in January.
At this race last year Herbert qualified 14th and went to the quarterfinals. The 'spring' Pomona event earlier this season resulted in another quarterfinals appearance for Herbert, but a stronger qualifying effort of seventh.
Heading into the final event of the 2008 season the Snap-on team has four semifinal and six quarterfinal appearances, in addition to their runner-up finish in Memphis and national event win in Norwalk. Herbert is currently eighth in the Top Fuel point standings. He sits 18 points behind seventh-place Brandon Bernstein and 20 points behind Rod Fuller, who is sixth.
"This year has had a lot of ups and downs for me," said Herbert. "In some ways I'm glad to see it coming to a close. It was hard to go to each track for the first time after the boys' accident and remember the good times I had with Jon and James there."
"Usually since we're not traveling so much I have some extra downtime during December and January, but I probably won't this year. We have a lot of stuff going on with the team. I plan on spending a lot of time working on the land speed car I'm building and on growing B.R.A.K.E.S. I know I'll stay really busy."
