POMONA, Calif. (November 8, 2004) -- The 40th annual NHRA Automobile Club of Southern California Finals, held this weekend, will be the final event on the NHRA POWERade Drag Race Series for David Baca to showcase both himself and his D. Baca & Family Racing dragster before potential sponsors.
"We want to do well at the Finals to show that we are capable of running with the big dogs as we continue our search for a major player from Corporate America to give us the financial backing for next season," said Baca. "We go to every race intent on winning, but while our goal is to win, we are also preparing for next year.
"It takes a lot of dollars to run one of these Top Fuel dragsters competitively. That's why we feel we have to go deep (go rounds) at Pomona to make a statement. If a marketing partner joins us in our bid to contend for the championship, then we will run all 23 races next season. If not, we will continue our plans to run about 15 national events in 2005."
Baca picked up a position in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings at the last race in Las Vegas. Although he has run a limited schedule this year, entering the Automobile Club of Southern California Finals at Pomona Raceway, Baca is lucky No. 13 with 587 points.
With Rick Henkelman calling the tuning shots, qualifying for the D. Baca & Family Dragster, with David Baca at the wheel, begins with one session each on Thursday and Friday scheduled for 3 p.m. each day and concludes with two additional sessions on Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. Baca's quest for the Top Fuel title starts on Sunday with eliminations for all classes getting underway at 11 a.m. All times are local Pomona time (PST) and subject to change at anytime.
Qualifying highlights for the NHRA Automobile Club of Southern California Finals can be seen on ESPN2 on Saturday (Nov. 13) from 10 p.m. until midnight. ESPN2 will also air same-day television coverage of eliminations from 6 until 9 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 14). ESPN2 will repeat the elimination show from 3-5 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 19). D. Baca & Family has been pleased to be associated throughout the 2004 season with marketing support from American Racing, Champion Spark Plugs, Don Steves Chevrolet (La Habra, Calif.), Goodyear, Lucas Oil and Mac Tools.
