Cruz Pedregon Ready for Pomona Finale
Advance Auto Parts Race Team Back Home Again
POMONA, Calif. (Oct. 10, 2005) -- The old saying goes, 'home is where the heart is.' For Cruz Pedregon, driver of the Advance Auto Parts Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car, his heart, soul and total attention will be on the Pomona Raceway quarter mile for this weekend's 40th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals.
Pedregon, of Camarillo, Calif., has already made four final-round appearances this year, but scoring a victory among familiar surroundings would top off an excellent second half. He talked about what this race means.
"Pomona has always been a special place to me," Pedregon said. "It's definitely our home track. We have a lot of family and friends who will come out to see us this weekend. I've won the race a few times and sure would like to be in that position again.
"We weren't our best in our last race in Las Vegas," Pedregon continued. "But, we we're only a few feet from advancing to the semifinals. This team has been outstanding and I'm confident that the week we've had off will give us the time to make the adjustments. I'm sure (crew chief) Wes (Cerny) will make the car even better than it already is. I'm definitely looking forward to this weekend."

TOP IT OFF: This weekend's NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series tilt at Pomona Raceway is the final stop of the 2004 season. Cruz Pedregon and the entire Advance Auto Parts Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car team look to finish out the season strong.
Only 30 points out of seventh place, Pedregon has his eyes on moving up.
"We hope to finish the year on a high note," Pedregon said. "We want to continue the consistency and success that has highlighted the second part of the season for us. And we're really looking to get as high as we can in points.
"It should be a pretty exciting finale," Pedregon continued. "The race for the seventh points slot will be among Tony (Pedregon), Tim (Wilkerson) and myself. I think we have a good shot at it."
