Pomona CA -- Pre Race Report: Coming into the final NHRA POWERade race of the season, Craig Treble and the Matco Tools Pro Stock Bike team plan to apply the most important lesson learned during the previous fourteen NHRA national events, stick with what works.
At the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway, Treble will again be riding the Matco Tools / Nitro Fish bike that he won the Las Vegas event with two weeks ago. "The bike is a nasty piece. It's fast and smooth, and I feel very comfortable on it." Commented Craig on the Vegas race, arguably his best ever since turning pro.
"That was a first for our team, qualifying number one, setting the Pro Stock Bike track record, and then winning the event. Now the plan is to return Pomona where this bike won the NHRA Finals last season with Matt Hines aboard, and hopefully go two in a row, and back to back with this special Matco Tools / Nitro Fish bike." Explained Treble.
Currently Craig Treble sits number six on the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Bike Points sheet for 2003, but with another strong performance, he could move up a few positions before the weekend is over. "I need to out-qualify a few riders and go some rounds on Sunday. With this Vance & Hines Suzuki running the way it is right now I have nothing but confidence that we can improve on our position in the points."
In addition to the usual NHRA Pro and Sportsman classes that are featured at all NHRA National events, Pomona will also host the annual Summit ET Finals World Championship. This event is filled with 2003 ET Finals champions, one from each of NHRA's seven divisions. The four classes represented include Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, and Motorcycle.
Because of this deep Bracket Racing roots, Craig Treble will be involved in the weekends Summit World Championships as well. "I have been asked again to speak at the Summit ET Finals World Championship banquet, and I take that as quite an honor." Said Treble.
"I know how hard these racers have worked to get here, and how important this is to each and every one of them. Some of these guys have come out from the east coast after maybe only racing at their home track all of their lives. This will be their weekend to remember, and for four of them it will be their dream come true."
In what can be considered a double shot attempt at winning a championship Wally in Pomona, the Matco Tools Bracket Bike may also see some track time this weekend. "One of the motorcycle ET Finals Champions has asked about running my Bracket Bike in the Summit ET Finals World Championship race, and I think it would be great to have both Matco Tools bike going rounds on Sunday."
