POMONA, CA (Nov. 6) - Larry Dixon and Don "The Snake" Prudhomme's
Miller Lite Top Fuel Team enter this weekend's season culminating NHRA
World Finals (Nov. 9-12) sitting second in the Winston points race, a
position they might not have been in if not for their semifinal finish
last week at Texas Motorplex.
Dixon's trip to the semis last Saturday marked the 12th time he
has advanced to the "final four" this season and moved him 13 points
past Tony Schumacher and into second place in the points race. Should
Dixon be able to match Schumacher round for round this weekend in
Pomona, he will keep a hold of second place and will have recorded his
career-high finish in the points race after just his first full season
with crew chief Dick LaHaie.

"With the way the scheduling and weather worked this season, we found ourselves backed into a corner last weekend in Texas," said Dixon. "With this week's NHRA Finals and the award ceremony next Monday, we had no other option than to fit the Dallas race in any way we could and I was impressed with how the NHRA handled the situation."

"Every team out there would have liked to have the opportunity to qualify and run our best times, but it's 1,400 miles from Dallas to Pomona and we can't exactly overnight these cars. The NHRA's call to set the qualifying ladder using the point rankings was a good one. We saw some real good racing in the first round and it worked out for us that we would race Schumacher's car in the opening round," said Dixon. "Whoever came out of that first round had a good opportunity to make a claim for second place, and for us it worked out great."
