POMONA, Calif. - In most forms of sports, playing in front of the hometown fans is perceived as an advantage. Drag racing is no exception to that rule, most racers try that much harder to do well when racing in front of the hometown fans. During this weekend's Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Pomona Raceway, Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Dennis Taylor is looking forward to playing that 'home game' in the Cooner Wire Camaro.

Taylor, who runs his racing safety equipment company, Taylor Motorsports Products, just down the road in Anaheim, Calif., feels that his team has finally turned the corner from their struggles of earlier in the year. Buoyed by a strong showing at last week's race in Sonoma, Taylor is confident he can improve on that in Pomona, which is very close to his primary sponsor Cooner Wire's headquarters in Chatsworth, Calif.

"We're really looking forward to this weekend," said Taylor. "Probably more than any other race this year. We were real pleased with the way the car ran last weekend, and I think we can build on that this weekend. This is a pretty big race for us; nearly all of our sponsors are out of the Southern California area."

Taylor also cites that the tremendous amount of fan support he has received over the past few weeks has been a big motivation for his team.

"I really am amazed at the amount of fan support we have received over the past few weeks," Taylor explained. "You never realize how many people follow you. After we had a good outing in Sonoma last week, you wouldn't believe all the emails and posts on the internet message boards we have gotten congratulating us, and wishing us good luck. That's really something that has us pumped up for this weekend. We'll have a lot of family, friends and sponsors out there, and we're going to give it 110% for them this weekend."

Qualifying begins on Saturday with three sessions. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
