POMONA, Calif. -- Last season rain and adverse weather conditions affected, to some degree, 17 of 23 national events on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. Now the 2004 season has officially started out in much the same manner.

Persistent rain, and the forecast for more to come, forced NHRA officials to postpone the K&N Filters Winternationals scheduled for this weekend and reschedule the event one week hence, February 27-29.

Cory McClenathan, driver of the Carrier Boyz Racing Berryman Top Fuel dragster, had the following comments regarding the rainout: "The extra week will be of benefit to us even though we are prepare to run the race today. It will give me as the new driver with this team an opportunity to gel with the crew, which should help us both now and in the future. The extra time will also allow for some fine tuning."

Added crew chief Jimmy Walsh, "The additional preparation will allow us to be more prepared and the way the schedule is set for next weekend it will allow us three qualifying session. That's good since we had a minor setback when a small gasket leak prevented us from making the field in the only qualifying session that was run this weekend."

When the race reconvenes this coming weekend, the schedule will be as follows: one qualifying session at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 27, two qualifying sessions at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 28 and final eliminations on Sunday, February 29.
