Walsh-Credeur smokes the tires in round 1
POMONA, Calif. - Rookie NHRA Federal Mogul Dragster driver Erica Walsh-Credeur had a tall task in her first round matchup at this past weekend's Pep Boy's 50th Anniversary Nationals presented by American Racing Wheels in Pomona, Calif. Standing in the way of her winning her first round of NHRA competition was defending four time World Champion Rick Santos.
The Walsh Motorsports team had their Blown Alcohol Dragster 'set on kill' to speak for the champ, but unfortunately for them, the Pomona Raceway surface would not hold it Saturday morning, and she smoked the tires the instant she hit the throttle. The champ Santos had no such problems and ran a 5.524 second elapsed time at 259.42 mph. Walsh-Credeur tried to pedal the car, but it was to no avail as she trailed with a 6.465 at 236.71 mph.
"It was my first national event in competition," said Walsh-Credeur. "Luck would have it that I drew four time World Champ Rick Santos. He's a super nice guy, very professional, and they have a first class operation. I went out there and did my own thing, and he did his as usual, and we blew the tires off of it right off the starting line. There was just too much adrenaline and horsepower for a slick track. We're happy, and I'm happy because I left on him on the lights, which is pretty rare from what I hear. It was a good trip for the team."
With the additional runs on their relatively new combination, the Walsh Motorsports team is looking for better things at their next outing, the Division 2 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event in Atlanta, Ga.
"We gathered a lot of data this weekend," stated Walsh-Credeur. "It was a very beneficial race for us. We gathered quite a bit of information that we were missing prior to Pomona. It looks like we have everything buttoned up and ready to go like it should be going."
