Following a good start to the 2005 season in Pomona, Calif., Cruz Pedregon heads off to Firebird Int'l Raceway with high expectations for his Advance Auto Parts Monte Carlo Funny Car. Pedregon, who won this event back in 1993, hopes to improve upon the semifinal round appearance that led him to third in NHRA Funny Car points.
"I am really looking forward to this race," said Pedregon. "We've won in Phoenix before, it is a familiar track and we've always tested well there. The performance at Pomona was very solid, the car ran like we wanted to but I feel we left something on the table. We're heading to Phoenix hoping to get the maximum out of the car for that particular track.
" I believe we are going to be in the middle of the field and fighting for the title all season long," concluded Pedregon.

Two weeks ago, Tony Pedregon grabbed the second-quickest pass in NHRA history during the final qualifying session at Pomona (Calif.) Raceway with a 4.681 second pass (at 323.25 mph). This weekend, Tony and his Q Racing Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car are ready to repeat last year's success at Firebird Raceway -a runner-up to Del Worsham.
"Phoenix has always been a great racetrack for us," Pedregon said, "Last year we made it to the final as a new team. Now, with a year under our belts, we've got a good shot at doing great this weekend.
"A few weeks ago we tested well at Firebird. This is an excellent track that will allow us to 'unleash all the horses'," concluded Pedregon.
