CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 16, 2001) - Mark Osborne led the way for the Team Mopar Pro Stock brigade following two rounds of qualifying for the Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals at Firebird International Raceway.

Osborne and his Nickens Brothers Racing Dodge R/T grabbed the 10th slot with a 6.929-second lap at 199.32 mph. The Abingdon, Va. resident explained the outing.

"We were really slow at the 60-foot mark," Osborne noted. "We were fast through the middle and back half portion of the track. We just have to improve."

Team Mopar Dodge R/T driver Darrell Alderman is on the outside looking in after a frustrating first day of qualifying. The three-time Winston Pro Stock World Champion failed to make a clean run.

"We ran through the clutch on the first run and I shut it off early," Alderman said. "The tires shook really hard in that second pass. I hate not being qualified. We'll get it together for tomorrow though."
