Goodyear collects six wins in NHRA races at Firebird.

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 23, 2003) -- Goodyear cars won six times out of nine classes in the NHRA Checker/Schuck's/Kragen Nationals at Firebird International Raceway.

In addition to taking the most overall class wins among tiremakers, Goodyear had the most wins among tiremakers in the Sportsman categories.

Ron Capps took the Funny Car victory, Brandon Bernstein won his first Top Fuel victory, Greg Anderson scored the Pro Stock title, Dean Carter the final round in Competition Eliminator, Ken Passerby was the Stock Eliminator winner and Ron Kelly Jr. won the Super Street honors.

Capps said, "This weekend really put a test to the Goodyear tires. With the heat on the track, for the cars to run in the low 4.8 second (range) like we were running and almost 320 miles per hour, it's a tribute to how good the tire was."

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes. The Pro Stock victory was the 219th straight for Goodyear since 1992. Passerby's victory was the 31st straight in Competition Eliminator, dating back to the 2001 season.
